Activites I enjoy outside of being a therapist: hiking, spending time in nature, practicing yoga, engaging in creative art projects, attending live music, traveling internationally, gardening, volunteering at the farmers market and with groups oriented towards food justice, being a plant enthusiast, learning about herbalism and having quality time with my animals (2 dogs, 1 cat) and partner.

"Katrina is truly amazing! She 180 my entire life and is so kind and supportive. Starting therapy can be intimidating but with the right provider it’s the absolute best thing you can do for yourself and I couldn’t be more grateful to have Katrina’s support through this life changing journey."

“I have been working with Katrina for almost two years and she has helped me whole-heartedly and with complete honesty and professionalism. She has taught me mindfulness and rigorous honesty. Katrina has been my biggest supporter in my recovery process with addiction, and she has given me many helpful tools to practice when dealing with my past traumas and grief. I built a bond of trust with her and took her thoughtful advice, guidance, and observations to heart. I highly recommend Katrina as a therapist- no one has turned my life around quite like her!”

“Over the years, I have had several therapists. However, Katrina was different. I felt she listened intently and tailored my therapy “specifically” to me. She actually helped me learn how to set boundaries with my family, especially adult daughters. Katrina taught me how to identify my specific needs and have confidence in sharing those needs. Katrina gave me homework and book references that were a tremendous help. I am a better person since experiencing therapy with Katrina. I would highly recommend her.”
FAQs
What is Trauma?
Trauma is defined as a deeply distressing or overwhelming experience that causes significant and mental and emotional disturbance, as well as severe dysregulation to the nervous system. It can be a single event or a series of related events that causes a sense of fear, helplessness, lack of safety, and results in significant impairments to daily functioning and often leaves lasting negative effects on an individual's well-being.
What is the Window of Capacity?
The Window of Capacity is also commonly referred to as the Window of Tolerance, which is considered to be the optimal zone of arousal for the nervous system, from which a person can function and respond to stress effectively. Trauma can narrow the window of tolerance, making it harder for someone to stay in that balanced zone of emotional regulation. This happens because trauma over activates the nervous system, making it more reactive and less flexible. The brain and body stay on high alert (hyperarousal) interpreting the world as unsafe even when it isn’t or can get caught in numbness, disassociation, freeze (hypoarousal). Healing from trauma often involves re-expanding the window, so a person can better tolerate a wider range of emotions and experiences without becoming overwhelmed or shutting down.
How will I get the most out of a therapy session?
In order to gain the most benefit from a therapy session I encourage you to come with as much openness, honesty and self-awareness as you are able to, so we can work in tandem, to support you in gaining relief.
You will be provided with options for between session integration practices, including (journaling, breathing techniques, mindfulness and compassion practices) which you are encouraged to use, to promote neuroplasticity (brain’s ability to form new neural connections), and improve your emotional health.
What can I expect during the free consultation?
The free 15 minute phone consultation will serve as a space to discuss what you are looking for in a therapeutic relationship/experience and for us to collaborate on the best methodologies to support you, and discern if we are a good fit.
